Museum volunteer helping with museum activities for National Archaeology Day

We're always looking for enthusiastic volunteers.  Volunteering with St Albans Museums Service is a great way to contribute to the local community, learn about museums or simply meet a great bunch of people!

At the moment, we have the following volunteering opportunities available within the service:

Art and Design Assistant

If you have a knack for art and design, do get in touch! In this role you will either create artwork and designs for the service, or help with workshops, events and projects involving art and design.  Hours: By arrangement.

Event Steward

This is a great opportunity for anyone interested in mingling with people and contributing to the various events we offer. You will direct visitors, run errands, and provide information to visitors where needed.  Events are varied and can range from medieval markets to Santa’s Grotto.  Hours: Dependent on the event.

Facilitation Assistant

In this role you will assist with the delivery of workshops, events and programmes organised by St Albans Museums for people of all ages. Hours: Dependent on events. Sessions usually last 2 hours.

Historical Interpreter

This role is great for anyone interested in helping visitors engage with the exhibitions at St Albans museums and sites in fun ways.  You might facilitate handling sessions, give a gallery talk, or give an interactive costumed presentation. Full training will be required. Hours: by arrangement.  Long-term commitment preferred.

Exhibition technician

This is a great role for anyone who is good at DIY.  You may paint the exhibition space for us, build a piece for an exhibition, or help us maintain the exhibition displays.  Hours: By arrangement.
