Search Our Collections
St Albans Museums' hold over 46,000 images in our image library, including photographs, prints, watercolours, drawings, oil paintings and postcards relating to St Albans City and District. The majority of these images were previously only accessible to the public by appointment. We also hold many current images of the collections, recent archaeological excavations and PR work.
For the first time, over 6000 of these images are now available to search online. This project is supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund.
Please feel free to search and explore, whether you are looking for something specific or simply want to browse. You can choose between using the advanced search or subject search options.
For more information about how to use these or if you are not sure where to start, please consult our Search Tips. Alternatively, you can use the search box at the top right of every page to search the entire website, including the image database. You can use this search facility from any page on the site.
We intend to continue expanding this database, and there are many images not yet available online. If you are not able to find what you are looking for, please contact the image library and we will do our best to help fulfill your request.
If you have found an image you wish to use, whether for personal or commercial use, please consult our page on 'Ordering Images'.
You can keep track of images you are interested in by using the Gallery facility to save your selected images. You will need to register to use this service, which means that you can return to your Gallery over several different sessions.
Since this is a new service we would welcome any general feedback you might have about searching our collections online. Please click on the Contact the Image Library link on the left-hand side of this page or below if you have any questions or comments. Also, if you have further information about any of our images, or believe there are any mistakes in the information on this site, please contact the Image Library as well.
