This gallery evokes the atmosphere of the medieval church with its richly decorated floor tiles, which are exact copies of originals on display. They once made up part of England’s earliest decorative tile floor, laid in the Abbey in AD 1160.

A fish tank with live roach reminds us of the Benedictine rule of life with its restrictions on meat eating in favour of fish, which led to the creation of the great fish pool below the abbey, part of Kingsbury Manor. This gave its name to Fishpool Street, now one of St Albans best loved and most picturesque streets.
