At first, in 1908, the scouts met in a room at Slade’s Hat factory on Victoria Street. The group was so popular that a more followed very quickly. Later on, in the 1930s, the leaders raised enough money to build a simple hut in Orchard Place, off Holywell Hill. Later still a larger, more suitable place was built on Watford Road where group nights are still held.

Thanks to the popularity of the movement and the commitment of the group leaders, Scouting in St Albans remains as strong today as ever.
