Napsbury Hospital in London Colney was founded in 1898, designed in 1900 and opened in 1905. It was one of a number of mental hospitals built in Hertfordshire for patients from the Middlesex area, and was also used as a military hospital during the First World War. Although Napsbury suffered some bomb damaged in the Blitz, it continued to be used as a hospital until it closed in 1999.
