Archaeology
The bulk of the archaeological collections are from the Roman city of Verulamium and the medieval town of St Albans. The collections from Verulamium are of national and international significance.

They cover both the everyday and the exotic, including important mosaics, wallplasters, and building materials, pottery, metalwork, glassware and bone.

We hold both published and unpublished material from the Roman and Medieval towns, the Abbey excavations and major sites elsewhere in Hertfordshire.

Excavations are carried out on a regular basis in response to building developments within the City and District.

If you're interested in archaeology why not read more about some of our more recent excavations.
