Lion and Stag Mosaic from Roman Verulamium.
Verulamium has produced some of the most spectacular mosaic floors in Roman Britain and you can see several of the very best on display in the museum.
In this mosaic, a lion is dragging a stag it has killed. The lion's tail has been cut off by one edge of the mosaic. This tells archaeologists that it may have been bought as a ready-made panel and trimmed to fit the room.
