Key Rings

Posted on: 18th July 2014 By: Sue Davies

Yesterday a researcher came to examine some objects from the Roman collection.  This photo was taken as the curator gathered the objects together.  Seeing all the key rings together reminded me how brilliant the collection is.

The researcher said that they were the best collection of key rings that she had seen outside of the British Museum.  We knew that the collection is good but it is lovely when others agree!

These key rings were worn by Romans as jewellery but they were also functional.  For instance the keys could be used to lock up precious items in small boxes.

emphsasis is probably the other way around - for security first and decoration second, as none of them are enhanced in any way, but thats a quibble, nice to see the blog works
