Museum in centre of St Albans one step closer!

Posted on: 27th November 2015 By: Catherine Newley

We've had several bits of good news this month about our plans to develop the Town Hall into a new museum and gallery.

Our plans for the building have been recommended for planning permission, change of use and Listed Building consent by the Council’s Planning Referrals Committee. The plans also need to go to the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government, Greg Clark, to ensure that the permission is granted. We should hear a final decision by mid-January.

The second big piece of news was that the Heritage Lottery Fund has awarded us a grant of £2.5 million towards the cost of the project. This builds on the money they had previously given us to develop the plans for the project and to employ the architects and designers. The fundraising isn't over yet though - we still need to raise more money to complete the project. If you're interested in being involved, you can find out more here

We'll continue to post our news about the project here and on our social media sites (@stalbansmuseums on Twitter and St Albans Museums on facebook) so stay tuned!
