Preparing New Stores

Posted on: 14th January 2015 By: Sue Davies

The photo shows dusty carpet tiles being ripped up in what will be a new museum store.  In order to redevelop a new museum and gallery in the town hall building the Museum of St Albans will close this autumn.  We need space to tuck all the objects away safely so we are preparing a new store.  From June we will be taking over the galleries in order to pack the Museum of St Albans up and we will be inviting visitors to help.

Most museums have more items in store than on display and we are no different.  Keeping the reserve collections safe is a really important part of our work.  While the Museum of St Albans is closed and before the new museum and gallery opens we are planning to improve the documentation and increase the number of objects you can see online.
