#stalbanscellfie Day

Posted on: 1st February 2015 By: Adam Ditchburn

Following our public consultation event on the 25th Jan we were back at the Town Hall yesterday. We were once again welcoming people into the courtroom and the cells but we'd added a slight twist, we were asking people to take and share 'cellfies'.

We had 113 visitors who were able to wander down to the holding cells beneath the courtroom with their smartphones or cameras to take a unique picture of themselves and share it on social media.

It was a fun day and we got some great feedback, one visitor said:

"it's really fantastic to have the chance to come down here quite informally, not on a tour but just having the chance to experience this fascinating part of the building in my own time I love my 'cellfie'"

St Albans Museums staff and volunteers had a great time chatting with visitors about the courtroom, cells and of course the project to develop a new museum and gallery in the Town Hall. The day was also about experimenting with how we can use social media such as Facebook, Twitter and Instagram as well as the technology our visitors have in their pockets such as smartphones, to interact with our events and sites.

If you missed this event there are more events planned for the courtroom space over the summer so be sure to keep an eye out for more details If you were one of the visitors don't forget to share your photos using #stalbanscellfie or post them to our facebook and twitter pages directly (links on our home page)
