Volunteer Tea Party

Posted on: 21st December 2014 By: Sue Davies

Yesterday we held a tea party to thank everyone who had given their time to St Albans Museums Service during 2014.  The volunteer team do a huge range of tasks, including; gardening, pouring tea, helping to identify objects, digitising records, cataloguing, fundraising and assisting with public activities.  Their contribution improves the Museum Service and we are grateful for the help.  It seems that it is mutually beneficial.  The work helps the Museum Service do more and, as several volunteers told me at the party, they get a lot out of it too!

The best kind of volunteering is when the skills and interests of the individual are matched to the jobs that need doing.  Next year we would particularly like to hear from people who could help us with;

1. researching and reading Medieval manuscripts for an exhibition about everyday lives in St Albans between 1066 and 1485

2. marketing our exhibitions and events

3. clearing space behind Verulamium Museum in order to create a small garden

4. helping pack and move the collection from the Museum of St Albans in preparation for the development of the new museum and gallery in the town hall.

If you would like to become a volunteer please get in touch using the form below.
