Conservation

Conservation service now available at St Albans Museums

As part of the redevelopment of the Museum of St Albans in the Town Hall, St Albans Museums has recruited a full-time conservator, part-funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund. Alison Foster is an objects conservator with experience of working with a wide range of materials and collections, including archaeology, ethnography, social history and the decorative arts. She has worked in diverse heritage organisations including the National Trust and Westminster Abbey, and has conserved items from well-known collections such as the Victoria & Albert Museum, Royal Botanic Gardens and the Pitt Rivers Museum.

As well as working on the St Albans redevelopment project, Alison is available to do external work for other museums. So if you have concerns about the condition of items in your collection and would like some advice or treatment from a local conservator, please get in touch for a quotation for any conservation work. Beyond preventive and remedial conservation, Alison is also able to offer collections management services ranging from surveys and condition reports to practical training and consultancy.

It is taking a bit of time getting the conservation facilities functioning again after such a long break in the service, so please bear with us whilst we get the x-ray and other equipment serviced and updated, but we are ready to undertake a range of treatments so do contact us to discuss your needs. We look forward to hearing from you!
