Image Library
St Albans Museums' Image Library is a diverse collection of 46,000 images encompassing everything from historic photographs of St Albans and the district to images of archaeological artefacts. These images are available to purchase for commercial use.
A large part of our image library is now available to search online.
One section includes current images of the collections, recent archaeological excavations and PR work.
The other section is our historic collection of images. This archive includes the two major excavations at Verulamium by Mortimer Wheeler in the 1930's and Sheppard Frere in the 1950 and 60's. We also hold a large collection of prints, watercolours and drawings, a number of oil paintings and a collection of photographic prints from the late Victorian period to the present day relating to St Albans City and District.
Access to these collections is by appointment, or selection made by staff with detailed knowledge of the collections
New photography of the museum collections can also be carried out for guidebooks, leaflets, publicity, exhibitions and public orders.
