Here you can find details of touring exhibitions available for loan.
The exhibition was a collaboration in 2004 between St. Albans and our German twin town Worms. It consists of 30 one-metre square wall-standing panels.
They tell of the connections between St. Albans and Worms during Richard's imprisonment in that city and how his ransom was organised here. Later in 1213 an attempt was made to present his brother and successor John with the list of restrictions on royal power, later of course known as Magna Carta. This draft was drawn up in St. Albans.
Although the exhibition has a local theme, the overall context is much wider and effectively tells the story of Richard's wanderings across Europe and his crusade in the Holy Land. The text is in English and German and is profusely illustrated in colour with photos of buildings, objects and manuscripts from the period. It is available free to those able to collect, from the Verulamium Museum.
