Reconstruction of a kitchen in Roman Verulamium.

Next door to the carpenter's workshop his wife is preparing a meal. This is a reconstruction of the room that served as kitchen and living room in their house. You can see some of the food they would have eaten and find out how it was prepared. Learn more using the touchscreen.

There are a wide variety of kitchen tools, including lamp holders, a shovel, candlesticks, a chopping board, hooks, knives and spoons. The fireplace is based on the real one from a house that burnt down in AD 155.
