Barbara Hepworth: artist in society 1948-53
This major exhibition explores a short but significant period in the life of one of Britain’s most celebrated artists.
This preview especially for teachers will showcase opportunities for you students, including:
- Visit experience packages for primary and special schools including facilitated gallery exploration and hands on immersive art workshops with artist Laura Ellis
- Children will enhance their artistic techniques and creativity, developing knowledge of Barbara Hepworth the artist and her works in sculpture using a range of materials.
- Opportunities for secondary art students including suggested schemes of work and lessons ideas, in particular supporting GCSE and A Level with the investigation and analysis of artists.
- We are also organising events where students will be able to see a sculptor at work, discuss art curatorship in practice with curators from Tate Britain and UH Arts and attend life drawing classes alongside a gallery visit.
Session outline:
4.00 – 4.15 pm: Arrival, welcome and refreshments (tea, coffee and cake)
4.15 – 4.30 pm: Exhibition overview – with the University of Hertfordshire Arts Team
4.30 – 4.45 pm: Opportunities for school visits - with St Albans Museums Learning Team
4.45 – 5.10 pm: Gallery tour – with the University of Hertfordshire Arts Team
5.10 – 5.30 pm: Feedback, booking enquiries and departure
