As part of Refugee Week, we are delighted to be hosting an audience with Onjali Raúf, award-winning author of The Boy at the Back of the Class.
Told with heart and humour, The Boy at the Back of the Class is a child’s perspective on the refugee crisis, highlighting the importance of friendship and kindness in a world that doesn’t always make sense. The book was a winner of the Blue Peter Book Award 2019, winner of the Waterstones Children's Book Prize 2019 and shortlisted for the Jhalek Prize 2019.
Onjali will talk about the background to this novel and her wider experience of supporting refugees and campaigning on their behalf. At a time when displaced Ukrainian people are at the forefront of our thoughts, she will remind us that millions of others from the Middle East and Sub-Saharan Africa are struggling to find security and rebuild their shattered lives.
This presentation will be of particular interest to families with school age children who want to better understand the lives of people who share their humanity and love of life but currently face impossible hurdles.
