With the summer holidays stretching out ahead of us you may be wondering how you are going to keep your little ones busy. Here at St Albans Museums, we have several fun activities to keep the kids occupied.

A day at the beach?

Visit St Albans on Sea

If you haven’t managed to book a trip away to the beach, no worries. St Albans on Sea is open every day from 11am – 5pm at St Albans Museum & Gallery. Come along to learn about our many connections to the sea. Create your own postcard, dress in our straw hats and waistcoats and learn how to be a telegraph operator. There is plenty of fun for all ages. Free Entry

Roman craft activities at Verulamium Museums

Over at the Verulamium Museum, you can learn how to weave like a Roman or make your own Roman soldier’s shield with self-led Crafts in the Colonnade being held every weekday of the holidays from 25th July. £2 plus admission fee

On 30th July between 10-11:30am and 1pm-2:30pm, you can build your own Celtic Roundhouse with ‘wattle and daub’ walls using willow weaving and a clay mixture and learn about the residents of St Albans before the Romans arrived. £10 per participant

On 13th Aug between 10-11:30am and 1pm-2:30pm, have a go at the ancient art of Drop Spinning, turning sheep wool into yarn and then weaving it just as the Romans did. £5 per participant

On the 25th Aug between 10am -12:30pm, we are holding a clay workshop where you can build your own Roman Oil Lamp just like the ones the Romans lit their homes with. £5 per lamp

Summer fun at St Albans Museum + Gallery

Back over at St Albans Museum and Gallery, create your own Sock Seagull to take with you while you participate in the seagull trail around the museum. This activity will be held on 28 Jul and 11 and 25 August.

Or maybe you want to get creative with some Junk Boat Modelling on 4 or 18 August and build yourself a junk boat using recycled materials and then put it to test and find out if it will sink or float in our paddling pool.

Both activities are only £3 per child and you can drop in at any time. Suitable for ages 3+
