My artwork is airbrushed acrylic on Bristol Board paper. I used Airbrush because it gives the piece a computerised, digital kind of look, reminiscent of old, low-poly video games (think Playstation 1). I’m drawn to nostalgic, dreamlike subject matter. The door has a fantasy, mysterious quality to it and makes me think of playing some kind of medieval themed video game. Airbrushing creates a slightly artificial, surreal effect.
As an ex-resident of St Albans, I really enjoyed portraying such a fun little feature of the city.
I’ve used mostly yellow and blue tones as a nod to the colours of the St Albans flag.
I’ve included an uncropped version of the image. The piece can be cropped to include more or less of the wall and to be rectangular or square.
