My idea behind the artwork is a door that inspires exploration, like a fairy door, illuminated by the light of the sun, with many possibilities of places that could lie behind it. Maybe a secret garden, or a tunnel into Roman Verulamium?

There is a warning that the person entering through the door should ‘commit no nuisance' in this new world behind it, showing respect to the people and places they will encounter there.

Sometimes it is easier to understand how we should behave when we enter unfamiliar ground – and then learn to apply the same in home and family.

Medium: This piece was created on textured watercolour paper with an outline in ink and a base wash of watercolour, with colour pencils on top for definition of shapes and textures. I let the watercolours run and bloom which inspired me where to lay the colours of my colour pencils on top, and I used the texture of the watercolour paper to create the stone and wood effects.
