My piece is tonal drawing of the iconic door in biro pen.

I grew up in the St Albans area - attending local schools, and I have often been struck by the slightly squat, heavily worn door and it's curious caption so this competition was an excellent impetus to investigate.

Nowadays I spend my time split between Brighton and Hertfordshire, and although spanning many different media I find my artistic practice time and time again coming back round to themes of myth, folklore, reclaimed objects, history, and psychogeography.

This opportunity is also exciting as a full circle moment, as I very distinctly remember attending a comics workshop hosted by the inimitable local legend Dave Gibbons at St Albans Library in 2010 as child, not particularly aware who he was. Now, some 15 years later, I make my own comics and zines regularly, am in the early stages of establishing a career in art, and, of course, am properly familiar with Dave's work!

Medium: biro on paper
