In the past we have offered three-day work experience placements on specific dates, for school and college students aged 16 and over.
Placements involve a range of activities and provide a general overview of the workings of a museum - including working with the museum’s operations, learning and curatorial teams. Tasks may include customer service and gallery supervision, supporting workshops and activities as well as curatorial or documentation tasks.
Please note that placements are currently on hold.
If you would like to be informed when applications open, please contact email@example.com with an expression of interest.
You can research further opportunities in your local area via the 'Do it' website, check out other Hertfordshire Museums, and Youth Connexxions. You can also explore your local Council for Voluntary Service (CVS) – a national network of centres who collate a wide range of local opportunities. In St Albans, visit Communities First for a wide range of local opportunities - there are fewer available for under 16s but they are the best place to show you what is available.
If you are able to travel, some of the London museums may have a rolling programme including for example, the Museum of London - do bear in mind that they tend to be very competitive. You can also download our file of useful heritage and arts links to explore below.
If you are over 18 years old, we offer volunteering opportunities.
