Jewellery for Henrietta, 2019, silver

Katy Gillam-Hull makes work fuelled by curiosity and informed by historical research and imagination. She predominantly works in precious metals but uses her knowledge of a variety of handcrafts to play with combinations of materials.

Exploring the lives of women in history who have been under-appreciated, Gillam-Hull uses the forms of traditional jewellery to make imaginative artefacts which represent their lives. Jewellery for Henrietta plays with the traditional forms of a writing case and thimble holder to reference Henrietta Howard’s friendships with influential politicians and the letters they shared.
