Car in the City, 2019, oil on wood

Rooted in a love of landscape and romanticism, Robbie O’Keeffe paints pulsating and vibrant scenes which emanate melancholic undertones, inspired by the spaces surrounding him.

O’Keeffe describes his artistic style as ‘visual music in which he builds layers of space and colourful harmonies within an image’. Although inspired by a sense of place, the artist’s works often pull towards poetic, emotional notions.

Car in the City depicts colour, light and texture - the phenomena of light and space a key part of the painting, leaving the rest to the imagination. The void of the background and cleanliness of the scene calling for questioning.
