This talk guides you through the history of our Christmas traditions, discovering what we have kept since the Tudor times, and what we have left behind.

Together we will explore how our Tudor, Georgian and Victorian ancestors all celebrated 'the most wonderful time of the year', through looking at food, decoration, gift giving and much more.

Come and find answers to questions such as:

  • What happened to the mince in mince pies?
  • What made Victorian Christmas crackers so brutal?
  • Why do we decorate with holly ivy, and pine trees?
  • Who was the original Grinch who stole Christmas?

All talks will be offered in a hybrid format – with tickets either available for Zoom, or in-person allowing you to explore the museum at night.
