Verulamium is one of the most important Roman towns in Britain, not only for its surviving archaeological remains but also for being one of the best-attested urban settlements. Verulamium developed into an impressive Roman town from a significant pre-Roman meeting place (oppidum).
Drawing from his recently published book "Roman Britain in Twenty Towns" (https://www.bloomsbury.com/uk/roman-britain-in-twenty-towns-9781350520110/) this talk will see Richard Hingley put Verulamium in its national context.
Both talk and book provides a handy guide for visitors who wish to explore these important sites, including the surviving traces of Roman buildings and the museums that address urban life at these places.
Special Offer: Mix and match 4 in-person tickets across our entire talks programme and get the 5th on free. (This is not a loyalty programme - all tickets must be purchased in one transaction.)
