St. Albans Museums is part of the Hertfordshire County Council "Services for Young People" work experience programme, and we are only able to offer placements that come via this service. We are unable to host individual requests for work experience which are not part of this provision. If you are a school, looking to become part of that offer, please contact: www.servicesforyoungpeople.org

If you are looking as an individual, you can research other opportunities in your local area via the 'Do it' website, check out other Hertfordshire Museums, and Youth Connexxions. You can also explore your local Council for Voluntary Service (CVS) – a national network of centres who collate a wide range of local opportunities. In St Albans, this is called Communities First who share a wide range of local opportunities - there are fewer available for under 16s but they are the best place to show you the kind of thing that is available.

If you are able to travel, some of the London museums may have a rolling programme including for example, the Museum of London - do bear in mind that they tend to be very competitive. You can also download our file of useful heritage and arts links to explore below.

If you are over 18 years old, or would be interested in family volunteering (where a young person and their parent or guardian volunteer at the same time and on the same shifts) we offer volunteering opportunities - these are not daily sessions but are rather linked to fixed-term projects such as exhibition research, seasonal offers such as holiday crafts, or there are some ongoing projects which can be done remotely for example oral histories transcribing or collections research online.
