Well known from the major excavations undertaken around the turn of the 19th and 20th century, this talk will discuss the recent excavations and ongoing research at Silchester, Hampshire,  shedding exciting new light on its Iron Age origins, people and daily life through its 400 hundred year history.  

It served as the tribal capital of the Atrebates, and was Verulamium’s nearest urban neighbour to the south west. Join us to understand more and to help put Verulamium into its broader context.

 

Meet the Speaker

Michael Gordon Fulford, CBE, FBA, FSA is a British archaeologist and academic, specialising in the British Iron Age, Roman Britain and landscape archaeology. He has been Professor of Archaeology at the University of Reading since 1993.
