Our Stories is a powerful project by St Albans Black History Research Group, that brings together an exhibition and a newly published zine. With research spanning 2,000 years—from Roman Verulamium to the lives of Black communities today, we are excited to share our findings so far.
This exhibition includes artwork created by Black artists who have responded to our research, using a variety of mediums to bring our local histories and stories to life.
Greatly inspired by the traditions of Black counter-culture and zine-making, Our Stories invites you to explore the often overlooked history of Black people in our community through a variety of writing styles and artistic mediums. This is the first time the Black histories of Hertfordshire have been brought together in this way.
Entrance to the exhibition is free of charge.
Copies of the zine will be available to purchase in our shop from 2nd October 2025 for £6.
Free copies are available for schools and libraries in Hertfordshire. Contact museum@stalbans.gov.uk to request a free copy.
An audio described tour of this exhibition is available. Please contact museum@stalbans.gov.uk to arrange a tour.
