Sarah Churchill, Duchess of Marlborough (1660-1744) is arguably now best known for her intimacy with Queen Anne and rivalry with Lady Abigail Masham to keep the Queen’s favour. But her life was much more than this – an extraordinary one by any standards.

She currently directs the University of Buckingham’s London-based postgraduate Biography Programme and consults for the Council of Europe.
