From Silk to Steel the Ballito Hosiery Mill was a major landmark in Fleetville from the 1920s to the1960s.

In 2024, this exhibition celebrated the Ballito stockings worn across the country, the striking adverts that filled the papers, the advanced machinery used in the factory and not forgetting the dances, language classes and sports facilities offered to its employees. The exhibition explored the transformation of the factory during the Second World War, from making delicate stockings to robust artillery shells.
