This year, in response to Covid-19 and schools being closed, the Maltings Art Prize went virtual.

Children age 4 to 18 were asked to create artworks on the theme the History of St Albans, and entrants were asked to create a piece of artwork inspired by any of the following examples: Roman St Albans, Medieval St Albans, Renaissance St Albans, 19th Century St Albans, 20th Century St Albans. The children used a variety of media including Pencil, Ink, Watercolour, Acrylic paints, Oil pastel and Chalk pastels.

All entries are now on display in a short film displayed in the Landing Gallery of St Albans Museum + Gallery.

The Maltings Art Prize

Maltings Virtual Art Prize 2020, a competition developed and instigated by Maltings Shopping Centre, was designed to support and encourage the development of art skills from the students of St Albans based schools.

The Centre was supported by the Herts Advertiser as media partner, and St Albans Museum + Gallery as the host of the Exhibition. 

All finalists received a medal, the winner of each group received a trophy and the overall winner received £250, the winning entry’s school also benefited with a £1000 donation to the Art Department.
