About the role
Are you passionate about connecting people with arts, culture, and heritage? Do you thrive on building relationships, empowering communities, and creating opportunities for those who may not usually engage with cultural services? If so, we’d love you to join our museums team here at St Albans Council.
Working as part of the wider Learning, Engagement and Curatorial teams, you will develop and deliver community-focused projects aligned with our National Portfolio Organisation (NPO) commitments for 2023–2026. Your work will help ensure that our museums reflect the diverse stories, experiences and creative voices of the communities we serve.
In this role, you will play a key role in strengthening our relationships with local communities across the district. You will work as part of our museums team to reach out to groups and individuals with low cultural engagement, helping them feel welcome, included, and able to participate fully in the Museum Service’s activities. You will be developing and delivering projects in line with our forward plan and activity related to our role as a National Portfolio Organisation. We want our museums to be safe, welcoming and engaging spaces for all and this role is fundamental to helping us achieve this.
About you
We’re looking for someone who has experience working with community groups, particularly those with limited cultural engagement and the ability to take on multiple projects. An understanding of community engagement within an arts or heritage context and the ability to build effective, trusting relationships with a wide range of partners and stakeholders is essential for this post.
A degree (or equivalent relevant experience), familiarity with Microsoft Office, and strong data‑gathering and reporting skills are essential. Good communication skills are key, as is an ability to actively listen. This role is a job share so a key attribute of the ideal applicant will be their ability to work collaboratively with others.
You must be committed to inclusion, diversity and representing community voices. The ability to work collaboratively and independently if needed is also essential.
